This is still an answer begging question I had wrestled with for three years, since my dissertation-writing days, in trying to position the work I am doing: At the same time, one may asks as to whether the humanities, apart from philosophy or perhaps even the technical histories of science, could have any valuable contribution to the construction of scientific knowledge.

Perhaps in the world of workaday science, the answer is: But, what if the science viewed here is not about experimental setups, instrumental calibrations, or computation of select phenomena. What if it is about how the most foundational epistemics in science can be read against society, and in the process of that interaction, certain transformations, particularly of ontological perceptions, could affect our theorization of the science?

Humanities most valuable contribution is at the level of critique, or creative vision, rather than in the maintenance of the mundane. Maybe the impact on workaday science is still negligible, but the framing of that scientific paradigm, and even how we locate our scientific beliefs, could do with some expansion.

Lives remembered with Rotary Every December, for the last five years, the Rotary Club of Malvern has been lighting up a ft tree in Priory Park, and inviting members of the public to sponsor lights in memory of loved ones who are no longer with us. The idea has obviously fulfilled a need for people to express their feelings, because the amount of personal sponsorship has grown every year.

We also ask local commercial undertakings to cover our costs by giving us their sponsorship. Commercial sponsors responded magnificently in the early days to cover the cost of the electrical equipment as well as normal annual costs, and even now they always cover more than our expenses, so that we can tell personal sponsors that all of their donations will go to our charities. The lights were switched on at 6. This year, in addition to the lists displayed at the Malvern Theatre and in the Council Offices at the Library, the Malvern Gazette has given us the opportunity to display our List of Remembrance on this website, together with the list of Commercial sponsors, and a note of our thanks to other people and organisations who have helped in some way, not least of which is the Malvern Gazette.

Many were children, thrown in jail for seemingly trivial offences, some were debtors. Larceny theft was a major problem, as it is in many neighborhoods today. Many of the prisoners were repeat drunks, prostitutes and vagrants. Among these prisoners are recorded the insane, whose first stop on the way to the asylum was often the County jail. There were of course the ‘criminal’ offenders, jailed for assaults, rapes, robberies, and murders.

It would appear that while there were numerous prisoners of a ‘local’ nature, ie. The Cobourg Gaol in the ‘s was quite unlike many of the country club type institutions of present day. An interesting list is provided of the furnishings in:
